Paro Tshechu

Paro Tshechu is one of the biggest festivals in the country. On the first day, all mask dances are held inside the courtyard of the Dzong. In the subsequent days, the courtyard outside the Dzong hosts the festival.

Paro Tshechu Day 01. Arrive Paro (Altitude 2400 m) 
Your Guide from Ola Tours and Trek will receive you at the airport and drive you to the Hotel.

  • Ta Dzong (built in1656 and renovated in 1968)
  • Rimpung Dzong (literally meaning “Heap of Jewels”).

  • Hike to Dzongdrakha Monastery.
  • Hike to Nunnery.
  • Village walk.

Paro Tshechu Day 02. Paro – Thimphu (Altitude 2320 m, (Distance: 54 km, 1 hr drive).

  • Excursion to Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest)
  • Kichu Lhakhang, built in 659 A D
  • Drukgyal Dzong built in 1647, now in ruins

In the evening, drive to Thimphu. On the way, view Tamchog Monastery built by Thangthong Gyalpo.

Paro Tshechu Day 03. Thimphu Sightseeing: (Altitude 2320 m).

  • National Memorial Chorten (1974)
  • National Library
  • Painting School
  • Traditional Medicine

After lunch,

  • Royal silver smiths
  • Bhutanese paper factory at work
  • Tashichho Dzong
  • Handicrafts Emporium.

  • Hike to Cheri Monastery / Tango Monastery / Phajoding Monastery.
  • Village walk at Kabisa.
  • Mountain biking around Thimphu

Paro Tshechu Day 04.  Thimphu Sightseeing: (Altitude 2320 m).

  • Folk Heritage Museum.
  • Textile Museum.
  • Changangkha Lhakhang.

After lunch,

  • Hike to Cheri Monastery
  • Largest statue of Buddha in the world.

  • Weekend Market
  • Hike to Phajoding Monastery.
  • Village walk at Kabisa.
  • Mountain biking around Thimphu

Paro Tshechu Day 05. Thimphu – Punakha: (Altitude 1310 m) (76 Km, 2 hours drive).

  • Dochula – You can see the higher Himalayas, if the weather permits
  • Royal Botanical Park at Lam Pelri.
  • Chhimi Lhakhang – dedicated to Lama Drukpa Kuenley also known as “Divine Madman”.

After lunch,

  • Punakha Dzong – Built in 1637, by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal to serve as the religious and administrative centre of the region.

  • Drive to Talo Goenpa
  • Khamsum Yulley Lhakhang
  • White water rafting in Mo Chhu/ Pho Chhu

Paro Tshechu Day 06. Punakha – Gangtey: (Altitude 3120 m) (Distance: 67 km, 3 hrs): 

After breakfast visit to:

  • Ruins of Wangdiphodrang Dzong razed by fire in 2012, (from outside) built in 1638; under construction now.
  • Gangtey Gompa – Gyaltse Pema Thinley, the grandson and mind reincarnation of Pema Lingpa founded the Temple in 1613, and Tenzin Legpai Dhendup.

After lunch,

  • Explore Phobjikha valley, famous for the Black Necked Cranes during winter.

Paro Tshechu Day 07. Gangtey – Paro (2280m) (Distance: 197 km, 4 hrs). 

 After breakfast, drive to Paro.  Lunch on the way. We then drive to Paro

In paro:
Village walk – Walk through a village to get a glimpse the local lives
Stroll through Paro town and explore the local markets

Paro Tshechu Day 08. Paro Festival (Festival Day 01). 

After breakfast, you will witness the Paro Festival. It is a good time to meet the local people in their finest costumes. This is a special time for the local people to relax and also a time for prayer.

Day 09. Paro Festival (Festival Day 02): 

In the morning, you can witness the festival.

After lunch, you can drive to Chelala pass (3980m) which is the highest motorable road in Bhutan. On a clear day, you can see Jumolhari Mountain and Jichu Drake bordering Tibet.

Day 10. Departure: (Altitude 2280 m) 

Early morning, drive to Airport and Farewell.
