Grammatically both the usages are correct while the most appropriate one is ‘the journey that connects’ however the word “connect” brings in deeper, bigger and direct connection then the word “connects” in this case. The difference between “connects and connect” in this case is the certainty. ‘Connects’ sounds being hopeful while the word ‘connect’ brings certainty, that is why we prefer ‘connect’ over ‘connects’, being certain of the connection over being hopeful.
